lytti is a music player for music that is already on your iPhone. It has no accounts, no sign-in and no advertising, and we do not run any servers that store your data.
What stays on your device
Your music library, the album and track information read from it, your own edits to that information, the artwork you add, the count and history of what you have played in this app, your settings and any lyrics that have been fetched are all stored on your device, inside the app's own storage. They are not uploaded to us, and they are removed when you delete the app.
Suggestions and the album that plays next are worked out on your phone from the artist, genre and year already attached to your own music. Nothing about your listening is sent to us, and no audio is analysed.
Your own iCloud
Play counts, listening history, playlists and your edits can sync between your devices through your own iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit). That data moves between your devices under your Apple ID - we cannot read it, and it never passes through any server of ours.
Lyrics lookup
When you open the playback screen, lytti looks up lyrics for the track you are playing from LRCLIB, a free and open lyrics database. The lookup contains the track title, artist name, album name and track length, plus an identifier for the app itself in the request header. It contains no name, no email address, no account, no device identifier and no advertising identifier - we have no way of knowing who made the request, and neither does the lyrics database. The result is stored on your device so the same track is only ever looked up once. LRCLIB is operated independently of us and has its own terms and privacy practices.
If the phone is offline, the lookup simply fails and the rest of the app works as usual.
About the music
Artist photos, the few lines about an artist or a record, release dates and an artist's other albums come from free, open databases: MusicBrainz, Wikidata, Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and the Cover Art Archive, and Apple's public store search. A lookup contains the artist's or the album's name, plus an identifier for the app itself in the request header. It contains nothing about you: no account, no device identifier and no advertising identifier. Results are stored on your device. You can turn the lookups off in Settings → Artist & Album Info, and offline the screens simply show what is in your own tags.
Last.fm, if you turn it on
Scrobbling is off until you switch it on in Settings and sign in on Last.fm's own page - lytti never sees your password. From then on, each song you listen to past halfway is sent to your own Last.fm profile: title, artist, album, length and when it started. Turn it off in the same place and nothing more is sent. Last.fm is operated independently of us and has its own terms and privacy practices.
Pictures: lookups that say nothing about you
Artist pictures come from Apple's own music framework on your phone, asking about the artists in your library under your own Apple account. Nothing passes through a server of ours, and an artist without a picture simply shows their initials.
On the screen you see when there is no music on the phone yet, lytti fetches the covers of the six records it suggests from Apple's public lookup address. That request carries the IDs of our own suggestions and nothing about you or your library. Offline, the tiles keep their placeholders.
If you set your own album artwork from a link, lytti downloads the image from the address you typed. It goes to whatever site that address names - one you chose, not one we picked - and the request carries nothing about you or your library. Setting artwork from your photos instead involves no network at all.
Anonymous crash reports and usage statistics
lytti can send anonymous crash reports and usage statistics (via Firebase Crashlytics and Analytics, in the build without any advertising identifier) so that bugs on phones we have never seen still get found. What is sent is which features get used and what broke - never content: no track titles, no file names, no search terms, no identifiers for your music, and nothing that identifies you.
This is on by default and disclosed in the app. The switch is in Settings → Privacy; turning it off takes effect immediately and clears anything queued.
What we do not do
We do not use tracking or advertising software. We do not build a profile of your listening. We do not share or sell data.
Your music library
lytti asks for permission to read your media library. This is required to show and play your music. Your edits to titles, artists and artwork are stored only inside lytti and are shown on top of the original information - lytti never modifies your Music library or your files.
This website
lytti.app carries no advertising. It does use Google Analytics to count visits: which pages are opened, roughly where in the world from, and which site sent you here. Google sets cookies in your browser to do that, and handles the data under its own privacy policy. This is the website only - it has nothing to do with the app or your music.
The feedback form on the front page is the other thing here that sends anything. Tapping one of the five reasons records only which reason it was. Pressing Send feedback sends what you actually put in: the reason, the note you wrote, and your email address if you chose to give one - the field is optional and is used only to reply to you. It arrives as an email to support@lytti.app, and it is not kept anywhere else. Delivery is handled by Resend, who carry the message on our behalf and nothing more. Like any web server, ours records the request itself - including the IP address it came from - for a short period, which is what stops the form being abused.
If you would rather send nothing through a form, writing to the same address directly gets to the same person.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If a future version changes what leaves your device, this page will be updated before that version is released.
